MWC 2026: When Innovation Stops Announcing Itself

MWC 2026 is a year I am watching from afar. I have attended in previous years, including being asked by MWC to support VIP Security Tours focused on emerging technology, risk, and practical innovation. That perspective makes remote observation easier, and more revealing.

The sponsor list does not excite me. It’s safe, consolidated, and heavy with expected AI narratives. What stands out more is who is not represented, and which categories feel muted. When innovation is real, it forces attention and this year, it requires searching.

One quiet exception is Wi-Fi 8. It avoids spectacle and focuses on reliability, multi-AP coordination, and predictable behavior in dense environments. That kind of infrastructure discipline matters and it enables everything else without pretending to be the star.

If MWC 2026 has a theme, it may be this: meaningful innovation has gone subterranean. You have to look for it. That, by itself, is news.
