Accessible AI Needs Memory Custody
This is part 3 of a three-part series on AI work partners and memory safety.

AI is finally starting to help workers who never really had good tools: blind and low-vision employees, screen-reader users, people working with “no-UI” terminals and voice. For them, AI assistants aren’t a novelty, they’re how work gets done at all-and that makes the memory problem sharper, not softer. These systems quietly accumulate intimate details: health, finances, work habits, even private conversations, across apps and time. The user can’t see what’s been remembered, and accessibility teams can’t answer basic questions: What does this system remember about this person, where is it stored, and how do we prove deletion?
In the earlier pieces in this series, we argued that observability (“what did the agent do?”) and memory walls (“what is this assistant allowed to remember for this role?”) are the minimum bar for safe AI work partners. Accessibility is where both failures cut deepest, because the AI isn’t optional-it’s the interface.
